About:

Mega Man Rocks is a project of love and respect dedicated
to the legendary game designers at Capcom of Japan. This
was a fair attempt at recreation of the 8-bit Mega Man
style made historic by the original NES series. It took
roughly 3 months to create this game from scratch using
GML code in Game Maker 7 for Windows. The project was
completed in whole by Eric Ruth of Bel Air, Maryland.

System Requirements:
1. A PC running Windows 2000, ME, XP or Vista
2. Current copy of DirectX8 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/)
3. Compatable DirectX8 sound card
4. Screen resolution of at least 800x600

Controls:

A- Move Left
D- Move Right
S- Down
W- Up
H- Shoot (B Button)
U- Jump (A Button)
Space- Select
Enter- Start
F4- Toggle in and out of full screen
ESC- Quit game

Noticable differences and Why:

Hardcore Mega Man enthusiasts will notice a few gameplay
differences from the original series. I will include here
a list of said differences and explain the changes.

Shooting speeds:
In order to make an odd kind of balance in how the player should
utilize Mega Man and his various shooting poses, I've created a
slight delay in the running and shooting speeds so that the player
will have to put a bit more planning into their platforming play.

Ducking:
I have created the ability for Mega Man to duck. This is the
biggest change in direct game play as it adds the ability to
avoid more enemies and shorten your "hit-box" during battle.
Mega Man can still shoot in this position although his rapid
fire rate is severely handicapped. This change is considered
a bonus.

Screen Scroll change:
You may notice that when Mega Man drops down a pit to end up on
the top half of the next screen, it moves a little different
then you're used to in the original games. Honestly, the
reason this is not exactly accurate is simply described as
"I suck at programming." No, I'm not very good at game making
yet and as such, a few things will suffer in the title. In
short: does screen scrolling work? Yes. Does it look similar
to the retro games? Yes. Is it exact? No. I hope this doesn't
depress you terribly.

No extra weapons or Rush:
Yeah yeah yeah. I just had a rough time programming everything
else and wasn't really ready

Q & A Time:

Q: What happens if I find bugs or problems?
A: Contact me with said problem at ericdavidruth@gmail.com

Q: The game won't start. What do I do?
A: As always, my first recommendation is to check your system
to make sure it is compatible to play. If you're running a
MAC, you're outta luck. If that is all set and good, try the
ever awesome "computer restart." If that falls through, check
your system settings to make sure there are no extranious
programs conflicting with the game. After that, just e-mail me
and I'll see what I can do to help.

Q: A lot of this music doesn't exactlly sound like "Mega Man" music.
A: Yeah, I'm not excellent at recreating the Mega sound you're used
to. I tried hard and it shined through in a few tracks, but when
you have to write 30 new songs for a game while taking care of art
and coding, it becomes a hassle. I hope you understand.

Q: What if I want to use a game controller to play instead of
the keyboard?
A: This requires that you have A) a video game controller and
B) a copy of Joy2Key. Also, if your controller isn't native
to the computer (for example, a PS2 controller) then you'll
need a converter (for example, a USB to PS2 converter).
Simply plug in your controller via USB and boot up a copy of
Joy2Key, making sure that you map the letters correctly as they
are listed in the controls.
